Healthcare economist, Olga Yakusheva PHD MSE, FAAN will be presenting “A human capital approach to nursing value”. This session will focus on reimagining the economic value of nursing and how a paradigm shift could transform nurses into revenue-generators and strategic assets within the healthcare system, rather than merely viewing them as labor costs. Dr. Yakusheva will share her insights on health policy and economics that emphasize the crucial role of nursing in enhancing patient outcomes and fostering sustainable, human-centered health care.
Dr. Olga Yakusheva is an internationally renowned economist and research scholar who is an expert on the economic value of nursing and its contribution to patient, societal, and organizational outcomes. Dr. Yakusheva is one of the leading economists influencing national nursing policy. She has numerous publications in nursing, economics, policy, and health services research journals and is highly sought after to present at national and international nursing conferences. She is currently a principal investigator on two NIH R01 grants that examine ways to optimize nursing care delivery in hospitals. She also is funded by the American Nurses’ Association (ANA) Enterprise and the American Nurses’ Foundation for her work on the economic value of nursing and nursing payment across the care continuum. In 2023, Dr. Yakusheva was inducted as an Honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. She holds the position of the Economics Editor for the International Journal of Nursing Studies. |
